Filament Temperature Guide
Start from verified typical material bands, not invented brand labs. Pick a filament type, read nozzle and bed ranges with source and review date, then calibrate with a tower — always prefer the °C on your spool.

Starting nozzle & bed ranges
Pick a material for typical TDS / on-spool bands. Optional filters add setup notes only — we do not invent brand-specific lab numbers. Always confirm your spool label.
Select a material to see typical starting ranges. If your brand is not listed, use the °C on the spool and calibrate from the midpoint.

Calibration workflow
- Start at the midpoint of your spool’s nozzle range (or this typical band if the label matches).
- Run a temperature tower ±5–10 °C; pick the coolest clean bond that still looks solid.
- Fix first-layer Z and bed before chasing nozzle °C for adhesion.
- Then tune retraction / cooling for stringing — heat is only one lever.
How to use it
- Choose a material family (PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, or nylon).
- Optionally note brand, printer openness, nozzle size, or whether you are chasing first layer, stringing, or warp — these only add setup notes.
- Read the typical nozzle and bed band, source line, and last-reviewed date.
- Start near the midpoint of your spool’s range, run a temperature tower, then follow the linked guides for adhesion, stringing, or warp.
Formula
Starting nozzle/bed = typical consumer TDS band for the material family. Final settings = spool label ± tower results. Optional filters never invent brand-specific °C.
Example
Example: PLA selected → typical nozzle ~190–220 °C and bed Off–60 °C from consumer TDS bands. Start mid-range, tower ±5–10 °C, then fix first-layer Z before chasing heat for adhesion.
Assumptions and limitations
- Ranges are typical material bands from consumer TDS / on-spool labels — not brand lab certificates.
- Brand presets are intentionally generic until verified brand data exists.
- Printer, nozzle, and application filters change advice text only, not the numeric bands.
- Always confirm your spool; filled blends and “+” variants can sit outside these bands.
Frequently asked questions
Why isn’t my brand listed with exact temperatures?
We only show numbers we can source. Brand-specific lab presets are omitted until verified — use the °C printed on your spool.
Should I print at the top of the range?
Usually start mid-range, then tower. Hotter can help bonding but often increases stringing and oozing.
My first layer still fails inside the bed range — what next?
Fix Z-offset, bed level, and surface prep first. Heat alone rarely fixes a bad first layer — see the first-layer calibration guide.
