Slicers hide a lot of pain: wrong units, huge triangle counts, and open meshes that break volume-based weight estimates. A quick local inspection saves filament and time.

What to verify first

  • Bounding box — does X×Y×Z match the intended millimetres?
  • Triangle count — very dense meshes slow slicing; very coarse ones show facets
  • Volume / surface — useful only when the mesh is closed enough for a signed-volume estimate

Load ASCII or binary STL, orbit to inspect, then take the dimensions into your slicer and cost tools with more confidence.
